Welcome to the Fireworks 2021 Community Response Survey.
The issue of illegal fireworks use in the City of Los Angeles is an important community issue. It is also a complex issue, as fireworks (any and all types) are illegal to possess, sell, or use within the City limits. They are also illegal in other communities, but many people feel that using them is a “right,” is a cultural demonstration, or is “patriotic.”
The State of California permits “Safe and Sane” fireworks in various communities. There are 29 such communities in Southern California that permit the sale of Safe and Sane fireworks. These are limited to devices that do not explode or fly. If you hear explosions, or see fireworks in the sky, they are illegal throughout the State.
This survey isn’t limited to fireworks use on the 4th of July - it’s relevant to New Years Eve, Chinese New Year, the summer period of June through August, and any other date or time period when fireworks might be used.
In order to evolve policy and statutes, it’s critical to gather quality data from the public. This is your opportunity to share your opinions, concerns, and to help identify possible steps that may have a positive impact on reducing the various threats to human and pet health, as well as protect property.
The information you share will be organized into a report that may be shared with any agency within the City of Los Angeles for the purposes of evaluating best practices and possible prevention, enforcement, and related activities aimed at reducing the impact “fireworks” have in your communities.
Your personal information will not be sold, leased, or otherwise shared with any commercial third party.
Thank you for being a part of this important information gathering activity.
